The Folsom Public Library and Ranch Cordova Library are both hosting a summer reading program called “Dream Big READ!” This program encourages individuals of all ages to read through fun activities and rewards.

At the Folsom Public Library, the event begins on Saturday, June 2nd with a kick off party from 10:00 A.M. – Noon. There will be a bounce house, story time, face painting, a kid’s concert by Music Matt, and more. Kids can pick up their reading activity card which they will work to complete over the summer for prizes. On June 11th from 6:30 – 7:30 P.M. children are invited to wear their pajamas, bring their stuffed animals, and listen to stories. After the stories, the stuffed animals can sleepover at the library and the kids can pick them up the next morning. On June 20th at 4:00 P.M., there will be a wild animal show in the adjacent community center, all ages are welcome to come and see the animals up close. On June 27th, from 1:00 – 3:30 P.M. there are three cool crafts kids can drop in and complete. On July 7th at 1:00 P.M., the library will be showing the movie, Big Miracle. On July 12th, from 1:00 – 3:30 P.M. kids can drop in to play an assortment of games in the library. Finally, the program concludes on Friday, July 20th at 10:30 A.M. With a concert at the adjacent Community Center by You are the Star Kinderwise Music Company.

As kids enjoy these great events, they will also be working on their summer reading activity card, which, when they fill a row of different reading activities, will be rewarded with a prize. Teens can volunteer to help the younger kids with the program and the events. Applications are available online at http://www.folsom.ca.us/depts/library_services/teen_services/default.asp.

At the Rancho Cordova Library, the summer reading program goes from June 1st to August 15th and all ages can sign up. Participants will receive a tic-tac-toe game card and once they complete the card, they can bring it back to the library to claim their prize. Kids will receive a free book and adults will receive a reusable book bag. Any completed game card after that will enter them into the grand prize drawing where the winner could get an iPad or, if a pre-reader, a $100 Target gift card.

The Rancho Cordova Library is also hosting a large array of events this summer including puppet shows, LEGO mania, concerts, ice cream socials, and much more. Exact dates and times can be found on their website at http://www.saclibrary.org/?pageId=703.
