        Using the classic works of Holling C. Holling students will discover and discuss the panorama of American wildlife, the opening of new frontiers, transportation systems, industry and heroic struggles. Students will learn to take notes, summarize references, write from pictures, compose a story and a personal letter. Students will also complete map work and put together a research report.

    Our Winter/Spring course requires that you completed the first semester of IEW Geography. New student enrollment is closed. If you took this course in the fall of 2016, you are automatically enrolled. Questions, email Mrs. Oh

         The structure of writing is taught by having students read literature, outline the literature, narrate from their outline and then write their own piece. IEW teaches style by providing children with a checklist of things that should be included in their writings. New student enrollment is closed.

     Do you want to become a published author? Over the course of this workshop, students will learn to write and publish books on their own. This workshop will take the students through the process of writing: brainstorming, writing, revising, editing, sharing, and publishing. The students will create several stories over the year. They will be instructed to choose two that will be sent away to a company that will make them into real books!

Community service projects will be a part of the mix. February 15th class we will be preparing for our March 1st field trip to the Powerhouse Science Center; Mission Control Challenger Program. Students must attend the February 15th workshop in order to participate on the field trip. Sign-up online separately for the field trip.

    Harry Potter fans unite!  Our book club will commence once a month with the first class on Tuesday, November 15th!  Students will be expected to read (or re-read) the designated Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, prior to the book club meeting. Students will be sorted into their respective Hogwarts houses, and House Points will be awarded accordingly.  Please make sure to read the book – the movies are great, but are no substitute for the actual books.

    Train with Mr. Cagney in preparation for the annual FCUSD track meet being held at Cordova High April 28 from 4PM-7PM. Students will learn and practice the events of the elementary track meet. No experience required. Can’t make the track meet? No problem. Attend the workshop for the fitness and fun. Rain or Shine. Bring water.
