Polytech Academy: Designing for the Future

The Polytech academy at Cordova High school is a three or four year program. The students learn the fundamentals of design and engineering. The academy includes a series of hands-on design classes from the national Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program, preparing students for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Students do CAD design, build robots, bridges, circuits and do many other hands-on projects. The Polytech students also have the opportunity to learn welding and other fabrication techniques in metal shop classes. The students compete in regional competitions including the annual after-school ACE (Architecture, Construction and Engineering) team design competition. The students are able to earn college credit and some colleges actively recruit PLTW students for their engineering classes. Students can also apply for PLTW specific scholarships.
