LEARNING AND TEACHING HISTORY MEANS digging deeper TO ME SINCE there is always more to the story than we think!

IF I COULD GO BACK IN TIME, I WOULD LAND in Washington DC in the early 1860s, ENJOYING dinner with Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln BECAUSE I can only imagine a conversation between these two great men.             .

MY FAVORITE ACTIVITY IN CLASS WOULD HAVE TO BE  the Roaring Twenties Party Reenactment SINCE I get to watch my kids dance the Charleston!

I BELIEVE Helen Keller IS MY FAVORITE HISTORICAL FIGURE SINCE she is much more complex than most people realize.  When we are little kids we learn about how she overcame being blind and deaf, but she was also a feminist, a radical, a supporter of the NAACP, and a founder of the ACLU.  She was an amazing advocate of economic and social justice in our country.

IF I HAD A WISH FOR MY STUDENTS, IT WOULD HAVE TO BE that they grow to be informed world citizens.

LEARNING AND TEACHING HISTORY is interesting TO ME SINCE I get to help students study the past and it affects the present and future.

IF I COULD GO BACK IN TIME, I WOULD LAND in post World War II United States, ENJOYING my life as a teacher BECAUSE I would have loved to witness first hand the social and cultural changes that have shaped the present United States social constructs and culture.  To me, this era sparks the beginning of decades long cultural revolutions.

MY FAVORITE ACTIVITY IN CLASS WOULD HAVE TO BE discussion SINCE it allows my students to  speak their mind about the subject they are learning about.

I BELIEVE  George Washington IS MY FAVORITE HISTORICAL FIGURE SINCE he had great foresight.

IF I HAD A WISH FOR MY STUDENTS, IT WOULD HAVE TO BE to enjoy the subjects they are learning about in their classes.

LEARNING AND TEACHING HISTORY MEANS the future TO ME SINCE it is critical in discovering who we are and where we want to be.

IF I COULD GO BACK IN TIME, I WOULD LAND in San Francisco during the 60’s, ENJOYING the music and youth movement.

MY FAVORITE ACTIVITY IN CLASS WOULD HAVE TO BE the Model UN Simulation because it opens up the minds of students to consider different opinions and perspectives in regard to solving current world problems.

I BELIEVE Eleanor Roosevelt IS one of MY FAVORITE HISTORICAL FIGURES SINCE she is often discussed in the classes I teach for her political activism in the areas of Human and Civil Rights. She also served as the head of the UN human rights commission and helped to draft the 1948 UN declaration of human rights.

IF I HAD A WISH FOR MY STUDENTS, IT WOULD HAVE TO BE an ongoing drive throughout life to continue learning about the world we live in. “Real education should educate us out of self into something far finer; into a selflessness which links us with all humanity.” Nancy Astor

LEARNING AND TEACHING HISTORY MEANS everything TO ME SINCE I have always wanted to be a history teacher.

IF I COULD GO BACK IN TIME, I WOULD LAND in the colonial times ENJOYING the debate over our democracy and the concept of self rule BECAUSE this is what makes our country so unique.

MY FAVORITE ACTIVITY IN CLASS WOULD HAVE TO BE My Life at 25 Project SINCE it asks student to project what their adulthood will look like at 25.

I BELIEVE George Washington IS MY FAVORITE HISTORICAL FIGURE SINCE he was not only our first President, but was also able to unite a severely divided country.

IF I HAD A WISH FOR MY STUDENTS, IT WOULD HAVE TO BE for them to find their soul food (whatever that thing is that makes you happy!). For me, it’s teaching and my STARBUCKS Juice of the Gods!

LEARNING AND TEACHING HISTORY MEANS  a lot TO ME SINCE I can continually investigate interesting historical events with my students, each year finding new facts, perspectives, and ideas that lead to great discussions.

IF I COULD GO BACK IN TIME, I WOULD LAND in the Roaring Twenties, ENJOYING new innovations/trends,exciting social and cultural changes BECAUSE I liked the exciting city life, changes in literature/art/music, historical figures from the era and the beginning of new found independence for women.

MY FAVORITE ACTIVITY IN CLASS WOULD HAVE TO BE historical simulations SINCE I can see my students completely engaged through living history.

I BELIEVE Benjamin Franklin IS MY FAVORITE HISTORICAL FIGURE SINCE he was a founding father who I believe had great influence using his humor, intellect, diplomacy, and drive to help found the great American Experiment.

IF I HAD A WISH FOR MY STUDENTS, IT WOULD HAVE TO BE that they too become a history teacher and/or embrace the love of learning it!

I BELIEVE Ferdinand Magellan IS MY FAVORITE HISTORICAL FIGURE SINCE he overcame overwhelming challenges and boldly went where no man had gone before.

IF I HAD A WISH FOR MY STUDENTS, IT WOULD HAVE TO BE to embrace your individuality knowing  that you have a unique imprint to leave in history.
