FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 9 A.M. EDT, May 22, 2012 MUSICAL SPORT DESCENDS ON FOLSOM
FOLSOM, CA, 2012: From June 2 to June 21, Folsom High School will host one of the world’s elite marching music organizations, the Boston Crusaders. The Crusaders are coming west for the first time in their 72 year history, and will spend three weeks at Folsom putting together their routine for their summer tour with Drum Corps International.
So, what is drum corps· From modest beginnings more than three decades ago,Drum Corps International (DCI) has developed into a powerful, nonprofit, global, youth activity with far-reaching artistic, educational and organizational influence. Through the annual DCI Tour and more than 35 World Championships in 17 North American cities, Drum Corps International provides entertainment to millions through live performances and nationally-televised events. Drum Corps International is Marching Music’s Major League™.
Who are the Boston Crusaders· The Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps, founded in 1940, is the third-oldest junior drum and bugle corps in the nation and is proud to be a founding member of Drum Corps International. The corps, composed entirely of brass players, percussionists and color guard members under the age of 22, travels over 10,000 miles each summer, performing in more than 40 competitions and exhibitions before a combined audience of over 300,000 fans. The Crusaders devote their entire summer to creating a highly polished, precise, musical production.
Few activities offer the opportunities for personal development found in drum corps. It offers young people the chance to entertain vast audiences with a unique style of music, movement and showmanship. As an activity where championships may be won or lost by a tenth of a point, it also requires the stamina and precision of highly competitive team sports.
The Crusaders will rehearse from sunrise to sunset (and beyond) at Folsom High School. All rehearsals are open to the public.
