PHOTOS: Folsom schools picked to pilot Intel program
Intel volunteers walked throughout the room, providing calm direction as students celebrated each of their successes. Students huddled over their circuit boards, making meticulous adjustments and watching intently at their laptop to see if their actions were producing the anticipated results on the screen.
For these Folsom Middle School students earlier this month, it was an engaging and challenging experience with computer programming, giving their inner makers a taste of what it’s like to see their creations come to life before their eyes.
The program was part of a pilot educational “Galileo” workshop Intel also brought to Folsom High School last month. Galileo is a small computer board that can be used to interact with and control a variety of items. Folsom High was one of only three high schools in the country to be chosen for the program; Folsom Middle was the only middle school in the nation.
At Folsom High, students used their imagination and skill to build a variety of items including smart toys – with lights and touch sensors – and a rock, paper, scissors game with LED display. Learn more about Galileo here.
