College Promise Program Accepting Applications
Graduating seniors of the Class of 2017 at high schools in Rancho Cordova have the opportunity to attend their first year of Folsom Lake College fee-free thanks to the College Promise Program.
What does fee-free mean? That covers the cost of enrollment tuition for up to 12 units at Folsom Lake College. Selected students will receive $579 each semester, plus get their Universal Transit fee covered which allows students to ride the bus or light rail for free to school, said Kristy Hart, Public Information Officer at Folsom Lake College.
Students are encouraged to apply for Financial Aid (by completing the FAFSA application). Those who receive Financial Aid that covers all or part of their tuition and fees can use Promise funds for textbooks and class materials purchased through the FLC College Store using a Promise issued coupon, said Hart.
To receive funding, students must be a current resident in Rancho Cordova, graduate from high school or receive a GED during the 2016-2017 academic year, and plan to enroll in Folsom Lake College full-time for the Fall 2017 semester. All students who meet these qualifications, regardless of income or GPA, receive funding for their first semester.
Student must successfully pass (with a grade of "C" or better) 6 of their 12 units Fall 2017 to receive funding for the Spring 2018 semester, said Hart.
Applications for funding for the 2017-2018 academic year are now being accepted through March 31st. For more information and to apply, go to: www.flc.losrios.edu/promise.
The College Promise grant program was jointly announced by Folsom Lake College Foundation, and the City of Rancho Cordova in June 2016. Initial funding was provided by the City of Rancho Cordova's Community Enhancement Fund as well as a corporate gift for Dignity Health.
