Superintendent Search: Details, forums & survey
With the announcement of Superintendent Bettencourt’s retirement at the end of this school year, the Folsom Cordova Unified School District Board of Education selected Leadership Associates Executive Search Advisors Rich Fischer and Sally Frazier to conduct the recruitment and comprehensive search process for the selection of our next district superintendent. Community input will be an essential component of the process. The Folsom Cordova Board met with the advisors on January 19, 2017 to discuss the search, and identify groups within the district and community to contact for input regarding the next superintendent.
The search process will involve the community and all interested individuals and groups by seeking input and opinions regarding desired qualities, characteristics, background and experience for the new superintendent. Additionally, the search consultants will ask community members to share their perspectives on the strengths and challenges of the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. The date for the input sessions is February 1, 2017; see schedule. The consultants will compile a report of comments received during the staff and community input sessions. They will share these comments with the Board and will also use the input to develop the superintendent position profile.
If people are unable to attend an input session, opportunities are provided for people to contact the consultants, via e-mail or cell phone. Additionally, an on-line survey available in English, Spanish, and Russian versions will be posted on the district’s website, from January 25 thru February 6, for community members who would like to give input but are unable to attend the scheduled meetings or prefer to submit comments in this manner.
If you are unable to meet personally with the Board’s advisors, you may send an e-mail to: bbanning@leadershipassociates.org, or you may call 805.364.2775 to leave a message for Rich Fischer or Sally Frazier.
Leadership Associates has conducted over 350 superintendent searches. They will recruit candidates from the region, entire state of California and nationally to assist the Board in developing a broad field of candidates so the Board can select the best match for the district. Leadership Associates conducts “confidential searches.” It is their practice that the names of the applicants are not shared publicly during the search process. The reason for the confidential process is to allow the consultants to recruit sitting superintendents and other highly successful candidates who are well respected in their school districts and communities. Many successful superintendents are reluctant or unwilling to apply for positions where their application is publicly announced prior to the Board determining a finalist. The Board will select interviewees at a closed session Board meeting on April 13. Interviews and selection of final candidate will be held during closed session Board meetings on April 21 & 22. The successful candidate will go to the Board at the regular Board meeting May 4 (tentative).
