Mitchell Middle student wins volunteer service award
A W.E. Mitchell Middle School student was honored at the Cordova Community Council's 18th Annual Community Volunteer Awards on March 10.
Eighth grader Anthony Lacayo received the award for his work as a youth volunteer, Counselor-In-Training (CIT) for the past three years at the school district's Family Engagement Summer Academy. After attending the academy as an elementary student, he decided to volunteer to make a difference for elementary students in the program.
Lacayo is also involved with the Police Activities League (PAL). PAL is sending him to a leadership conference in southern California in the summer, in recognition of his passion for service and his work on the Youth Leadership Council.
