Throughout the month, teachers discussed with students aspects of a healthy lifestyle, such as: getting a good night’s rest, exercising, eating nutritious foods, and staying drug-free. Teachers also encouraged students to support the heart research at American Heart Association.
Along with learning about health, students learned different jump roping techniques in P.E. class. Students also decorated posters with their classes to display in the office about what they had learned about health and heart health.
At the end, students celebrated all that they have learned and accomplished. At Navigator Elementary, students participated in the Jump Event Celebration, an outdoor activity day with numerous stations about jump roping. At Williamson Elementary, students had 30-minutes of pure fun jump roping.
Jolane McCarthy, the P.E. teacher at Navigator Elementary and Williamson Elementary, coordinated this event along with help from other teachers and staff.
McCarthy said that this event gives students an opportunity to learn how to give. She commented, “I wanted the kids to know it doesn’t matter how much money they brought in—every little bit matters.”
This is a prime example of students at FCUSD taking what they have learned and making a difference in the community.
