Math Challenge Test

 Math Challenge Tests for 2017/2018
Math Challenge tests - Friday May 12, 2017 at 3:00 pm

Below are the signups for the challenge tests that will be given on May 12 at 3 pm. These tests are in place to allow students to skip an entire year of math curriculum and should not be taken unless a student is advanced and has met all criteria (see below).

  •        Students must show up ON TIME or they will not be able to test.
  •        The tests and the results are confidential – no tests will be available for review after the test.
  •        All tests have tasks and short answer questions.
  •        A student that scores more than 80% will be placed in the next course.
  •        Students that score 60 - 80% will be placed in their grade level advanced course (preAP)
  •        Students that score less than 60% will be placed in their grade level course.
  •        There are NO retakes.

PreAP Course 1 challenge test – for 5th graders that want to challenge (skip) Course 1 (6th grade math). These students should have an A in 5th grade math, be at grade 5 on the spring I-ready diagnostic, and have a CASSP overall score of 4 - 5.  This test is also for current SMS students in Course 1 who are interested in Pre AP Course 2. This test covers all of the material in Course 1 (6th grade standards). Students who score at least 80% on this test will be placed in PreAP Course 2.

PreAP Course 2 challenge test - for 5th grade Theodore Judah Academy and 6th grade Carl Sundahl & Natoma Station students who have scored 80% on the 6th grade final given at their elementary site, or PreAP Course 1 students who wish to skip this course. These students should have an A in their current math class, be at grade 6 on the spring I-ready diagnostic, and have a CASSP overall score of 4 - 5. This test covers all of the material in both Course 2 and Course 3 (7th and 8th grade standards). Students who score at least 80% on this test will be placed in Integrated Math 1.

Course 3 challenge test – for current 7th grade students who are in regular Course 2 who would like to skip Course 3 and go directly to IM1. These students should have an A in C2, be at grade 7-8 on the spring I-ready diagnostic, and have a CASSP overall score of 4 - 5. This test covers all of the material in Course 3 (8th grade standards). Students who score at least 80% on this test will be placed in Integrated Math 1.

Integrated Math 1 challenge – For PreAP C2 students who wish to skip Integrated Math 1. These students should have an A in PreAP C2 math, be at grade 7 on the spring I-ready diagnostic, and have a CASSP overall score of 5. This test covers all of the material in IM1. Students who score at least 80% on this test will be placed in Integrated Math 2.

Integrated Math 2 challenge – For IM1 students who wish to skip Integrated Math 2. These students should have an A in IM1 math, be at grade 8 on the spring I-ready diagnostic, and have a CASSP overall score of 5. This test covers all of the material in IM2. Students who score at least 80% on this test need to contact the high school for placement in a zero period IM2 class. Transportation is up to the family.
