Operation Protect and Defend (OPD), a joint high school outreach program of the Sacramento County Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association, honored Cordova High School seniors Kelvin Martinez and Brianna Franklin recently at their annual Law Day Dinner at the Sheraton Grand Ballroom in Sacramento.
The students studied a legal curriculum consisting of four landmark cases in Cameron Billeci's government class. Lawyers from the state capitol and private practice presented and tested the students in the classroom. Brianna Franklin entered an art contest and Kelvin entered an essay contest based on the theme of the cases.
Brianna won the distinction of a having her artwork displayed at the dinner, and Kelvin was chosen as the Teacher's Choice Award, winning $200. In addition, he was able to meet and talk with Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court Anthony Kennedy (pictured above with Kelvin).
