Celebrating our Community Reader volunteers!
Community Readers is a volunteer-based tutoring program that helps young students become better readers. Yesterday evening we had a chance to celebrate these wonderful volunteers at our annual Community Readers Volunteer Reception. Principals, teachers and district leadership all came together to say THANK YOU to the community of volunteers who provided our students with a successful year of reading practice and support. Volunteers this year included high school students, business leaders, retirees, civic leaders and even members of our own staff! Not only did students in Community Readers learn new words and strengthen their reading skills, they gained confidence and a love for reading through this one-on-one tutoring program.
Next year we will offer Community Readers at 10 of our elementary schools. Want to get involved? You can make a difference in the life of a child. For more information or questions about Community Readers, please visit our website or contact Angela Griffin Ankhelyi at agriffin@fcusd.org.
